The Central Valley of California is home to 130 school districts, where 22% of the rural schools lay nestled within agricultural communities, often with limited access to educational alternatives such as online or distance learning. Regardless of location or academic ability, students deserve our very best effort to provide them with learning opportunities that meet their needs, especially when the alternative may mean dropping out altogether. For some students, online learning might be an advanced placement course, and for others it may be credit-recovery classes to get back on track to graduating. Whatever the focus, the day will come when online learning is an option for all students, but until then we must keep the conversation going.

This year, through a sponsored partnership between the State Center Consortium, CTAP Region 7, and the Fresno County Office of Education we're excited to continue the dialogue. Our keynote panelists will be Mr. Steve Hargadon, founder of Classroom 2.0 Social Network and Elluminate's Social Learning Consultant; Dr. Kip Leland, President of the California eLearning Special Interest Group (through CUE and iNACOL); and Mr. Rob Darrow, Principal of Clovis Online School in the Clovis Unified School District. Each panelist will provide attendees with their perspectives of learning opportunities in the 21st Century, along with a question and answer session to follow.
